The Seven Secrets

Quick question: How many secret passages into Hogwarts?

7 right. Everything in Harry Potter is 7.

So there are four that Filch knows about, one that was blocked by a cave in, one that ends up in Honeydukes and one under the Whomping Willow.

One that goes to the Shrieking Shack. One that Sirius Black was using to get into the school.

So as far as everyone knows in the Prisoner of Azkeban Sirius betrayed Harry’s parents and worked for Voldemort. All the secret passageways are being watched. Lupin feels guilty because he never told Dumbledore that Sirius knew about the passage.

But here’s the weird thing, Dumbledore had that passage and the Shrieking Shack made for Lupin.

He might not have known Sirius knew about it but he sure knew it existed. And more than that he knew Sirius and Lupin were best friends.

And even weirder Snape knew both. He knew about the passage and he knew that Sirius knew because Sirius lured him down there in Sirius’s adolescent attempt at murder. So what? He knows about the passage, he knows Sirius knows about it and they just decide to do nothing.

In short what the hell is going on here?

Does Snape hate Sirius so much he’s not telling Dumbledore how he’s getting in so he can catch him, hopefully in cahoots with Lupin maybe after murdering Harry? Has Dumbledore just forgotten he had a secret passage built for a werewolf?

It’s all very odd.

Give me your ideas in the comments 🙂

  1. Dumbledore should know that Sirius knows about the passage under the Whomping Willow because Sirius told Snape about it when James saved Snape’s life.

Unless we’re expected to believe that Snape kept his mouth shut about who told him how to get into the passage (I’m assuming James wouldn’t have named names)?
